Noxus Noms Submission

So recently I have been at work making a cake for the Noxus Noms competition League of Legends (an online pvp game) hosts. My submission for it is Annie and her bear Tibbers. In this picture Annie has Tibber's get the cupcake from the the middle of a Yordle Snap Trap (a bear trap with a cupcake for bait). The winners are announced on June 6th.
This cake gave me so much more frustration than it should have because of all the rain and heat this weekend nothing would harden =/

Birthday Cakes

Today was another big day I had to make two birthday cakes. One I was planning on making for a while because it is for my best friend. The other was last minute for my coworkers son who is turning 21. I managed to finish each cake just in time with not too much lost sleep.

The cake for my best friend is a chocolate cake that is covered in icing that made caramel flavored and the outside is covered in shredded coconut and then drizzled with chocolate over the coconut. I made is name using symbols from different video games and music that he listens to. The "J" is a simple music note representing his music talent, the "O" is the Horde symbol from world of Warcraft the "S" is the Shinedown logo and the "H" is composed of the turret from portal and a light saber from none other than the new star wars mmo game.

The cake for my coworkers son his name is Nate was suppose to be checkered with his 2 favorite colors but i lost a layer of cake it stuck to the pan and just was bad news. Since he is turning 21 his mom wanted something that was more unique towards him. His favorite drink is NewAmsterdam so so I attempted to make the bottle out of gum-paste to the best of my ability and had it appear as it was spilling across the cake. Here is a picture of how that cake turned out

The Reaction to the Cake

Well, today I finally got to see my boss (the person running the event the cake was for) and she just went on and on about how awesome it was complimenting both on how it looked and how it tasted. Everyone there wanted my information for future reference =) Super excited. I guess I should start making my official business cards and working on my website. The manager of the place where the bridal shower was held insisted the cake be on display during the entire party, this information really gave me that warm fuzzy feeling inside. I'm so glad everyone enjoyed it and there was even some left over to have another day. =) Day made =).

Bridal Shower Cake

Well yesterday was the big day. I haven't heard anything about how it went over hopefully I will by tomorrow. The cake came out pretty well I used rice crispy treats to make the teapot which worked amazing. I had some issues making the handle for the teapot. It was completely my fault though I did not lot leave myself an ample amount of time to allow the gum-paste to fully harden. I made about three different handles before I got one that wouldn't break though it doesn't look the nicest but I ran out of time. Next time (if there is a next time) I know when to start making the fragile pieces. Let me know what you guys think about how it turned out. Please and thank you =).

Checker Cake

So I got a new cake pan set over the weekend and I couldn't wait to try it out. I made each of the layers of this checkerboard cake but I have not put them together because silly me forgot to get icing. Though the cake layers look really pretty. I plan on making this cake for my room mates because their birthdays are back to back so I am going to do each of their favorite colors. Then I was thinking about taking the idea further and using it on the small vanilla cake for the bridal shower (using the 2 colors of the invitations).

Chocolate Roses

Well guys I decided to to see if I could use the rose pattern for the cake that I'm working on to make chocolate flowers for my friends for Valentine's Day. I found a modeling chocolate recipe online so I thought I was good to go. But, the chocolate stayed sticky and didn't get hard and was overall very difficult to work with, even after I put in the fridge for the recommended amount of time. So I thought about making it more a fondant material so I took my trusty bag of powered sugar and my shortening and began to kneed in powered sugar and about a tbs of shortening until the chocolate was pliable and easy to work with. I then began to mold the roses and at first I made them the same way as the fondant roses, but when I put them on the lollipop sticks they just didn't look full and big enough so I added another layer of pedals, they looked so much better and almost real. I brought about 4 of them to my dad's work party over the weekend since he works at a restaurant. My dad tried one and was like it tastes just like a tootsie roll (I had been trying to figure out what it tasted like). The pastry chef's were also impressed and were wondering why I was going to school as a math and education major. Well here is a picture of how they turned out.  Oh and the leaves on the bottom is just made with a green white chocolate using the exact modeling chocolate recipe.

Fondant Roses

Well I actually found a rose design that I like 10 times better than then the 3 that I asked you all to vote on. (Thank you too all who voted by the way number 2 was my favorite as well.) I made 2 for fun and took a picture of them this is how they came out ... I think you will also agree that they are much better.

Bridal Shower Cake Work in Progress

Well I have my next cake project. I am making a cake for my boss's sisters bridal shower. Its a tea party theme and I am a little nervous about it. My boss gave me a picture of what she wants it to look like so I will be making it sometime in the next weeks to see how it comes out. If anyone has a good fondant recipe I would love to try it.

As of right now I am working on making some of the roses so i can figure out what design rose I want to do, I made 3 different ones they aren't colored because i didn't want to dye the fondant yet so lemme know which one you think is the best...

Steak and Grill Cake

Hello, everyone my name is Candice and I have been spending some of my free time making cakes for different occasions. Recently I made a cake for my father's work. He works at a steakhouse so I designed a cake based on his place of work. The main part of the cake is made with two layers of red velvet cake the top of which had Oreo cookies cooked into the top of it so it looks like burning charcoal under the "grill plate." Then i made the two steaks with a thin layer of cake left over from leveling out the main cake then covered it in fondant to resemble the texture and color of steaks. Some of the cake is covered in fondant I made my scratch, I don't think that i put enough powdered sugar in the mix because it was hardening the way I would have liked so I ended up buying a tub of fondant which I also used on some of the more important parts that needed to be sturdy. The over all cake didn't come out as neat as I would have liked.
